The board of a Settlers of Catan game consists of hexagonal pieces that need to be fitted together. The hexes represent the riches of the island of Catan – grain, timber, wool, brick and so on. Core resources are traded by the players who assume the role of ‘settlers’ on the island of Catan which is rich but has no inhabitants.

Players are required to assess their situation and decide which of their resources they can trade and get other resources in return. Different resources are held by players in the form of cards and these are exchanged between players when trading of resources is done. Strategic thinking is required for players to decide what they need and what they can dispose off. Players of Settlers of Catan are supposed to develop the island by building facilities like roads and bridges. Only trading and building sounds dull? Take heart there is a robber also to liven up things! Players can use the robber to steal from each other thus stopping their opponents’ progress.

Successful completion of development projects entitles players of victory points. A specific number of victory points means winning the game of Settlers of Catan. Finishing one game of the Settlers of Catan can take around one hour. A Settlers of Catan board game promises good family fun times.

The Settlers of Catan board game makes players put on their thinking caps and think up various strategies.
