Description of Carcassonne Board Game

The Carcassonne Series game is set against the backdrop of a fortified medieval town in South France. Stories about the town of Carcossne form the backdrop for the games in the Carcosonne series. Players build and develop the town by deputing followers whose presence ensures the construction of structures like roads, monasteries, fields and the like.

The game board of the Carcassonne Series game gives players a medieval landscape to build tile by tile. Players get one terrain tile as the game begins, with the other tiles being shuffled and kept face down. At each turn a player is allowed to take one tile and place it on the Carcossnne Series game board next to the tiles already there. Players have to ensure that the terrain matches. Roads cannot abruptly end in walls or fields. So, players need to use their tiles judiciously.

Players can place new tiles and a follower on that tile claiming ownership and getting points. Placing a follower makes a player an owner of the tile and gets him points.

The game comes to an end when the last tile is in place. As with any other game the player with the maximum number of points is declared the winner.

The Carcossnne Series game comes with a rulebook that specifies rules for scoring. First time players are often seen referring to the rulebook every now and then.

With time, players become experts in the game mechanics like conserving followers, judicious farmer placement, joining in on other players' features, trapping opponents' followers and avoiding sharing.

The advent of the Carcassonne Series is due to the immense popularity that the first Carcassonne game had. As a natural response to the popularity expansions to the existing Carcassonne game followed, then came entire stand alone games with different themes and backgrounds. Thus, it was but natural for the term ‘Carcassonne Series’ to be used to refer to the whole bunch of Carcassonne games.

A few of the expansions of the game are Carcassonne: The Count of Carcassonne; Carcassonne: The Tower ; Carcassonne: The River; Carcassonne: King and Scout; Carcassonne: The River II; Carcassonne: Traders and Builders; Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedral, Carcassonne: The Cathars; Carcassonne: The Princess and the Dragon.

The well known stand alone Carcassonne games are Carcassonne: The Castle; Ark of the Covenant; Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers; Carcassonne: The Discovery; Carcassonne: The City.

With so many Carcossnne games around can the online version be left out? Certainly not. In fact the online version of the Carcossnne game is so popular that people vie with each other in setting up records in it. A German is the current holder of a record of having used 5517 tiles to play the online version of the Carcassonne game.
